Also, back to SteamWorld Dig 2: the more I think about the ending, the more deflated I am about it. I've got some unfinished business with the trials, but really don't have the drive to go back because I just think how it finished was a bit shit. The rest was brilliant, but the end... well. I get what it was doing, obviously, but that didn't stop it being crap. Gar?

Can't say it bothered me particularly, I don't really play Steamworld games for the storyline.  It ended with a boss fight and a cut scene.  Didn't really expect much else.

Super Mario Run - Grabbed all coloured coins (pink, purple and black) in all levels of the Tour, so I'm considering this done. There's still things like Star World (unlocked six of the nine stages), Toad Rally and Remix 10 to keep me going though, so I'll persist on this. Took me ages to actually get into - I got it at release and then never played it - but it's decent enough for what it is.

Anyone tried Fortnite battle royale?
Yes, I've played it a lot. It's possibly simplified compared to PUBG but that core 1 vs 99 is a lot of fun. Fortnite has an interesting crafting system that allows you to build structures for defense as the play area becomes smaller or build stairs up sheer cliffs to gain the high ground. It's a nice looking game, the characters have a sort of action figure aesthetic which is cool but there're no options to customise your character and when you start a match you're assigned an avatar from a selection of default models. The map isn't all that big but has plenty of interesting locations (though nothing that matches things like the hospital in PUBG).
It's been interesting to see it develop over the last few weeks. I managed to win a game in the first 24 hours before people learned the buttons. More recently, especially in the end game, you see players building structures at incredible speed. I've not really played much of the squad/duo modes -- tend to try and hermit it out at the edges of the map in solo which seems at odds with most players who dive into the map directly under the "party bus" that drops you off. And since there's no in game chat yet coordinating with the squad seems harder than it needs to be.

See, I'm going the other way on this one. I don't have much of an affinity with the FE franchise, but I loved Hyrule Warriors so much that I'm hoping that side of things is going to draw me into a world I wouldn't normally venture into. It won't make me care for the real thing, but I think it'll be fun.

Well, maybe.

Aren't they also running a free weekend for it, or something?

I didn't think it was great. Vehicle controls, in particular, I remember being dire. Dunno, maybe they improved it, but it's gonna have to be a lot cheaper than that to tempt me.

Deal of the Week on PSN is Ghost Recon Wildlands for £28, which seems almost worth it. I had a reasonable amount of fun with the beta, and with my progress stalling in Destiny 2 I'm tempted by another low-obligation shooter. (I think I probably got the most out of The Division of Society regulars, even if I didn't get very far into the endgame, so maybe I'm just closer to the marketing target for this kinda thing.)

I... don’t know. I love Hyrule Warriors beyond all reason but I don’t have any kind of connection with the Fire Emblem franchise. I’ve played a few hours of Awakenings and a bit of that F2P thing, that’s it. This feels like fan service for something I’m not really a fan of.

SteamWorld Dig 2 - Bronze stars for time (14+hrs) and deaths (33, because THOSE DAMN TRIALS), but gold for 100% secrets and wealth (basically all the ore). What a great, satisfying game. Ending was a bit weird, but still loved it.

Additional PLAY:

Yono And The Celestial Elephants - Was excited about this, it looks lovely and right up my street, but it's really slow and a bit dull. There's too much filler text about things that aren't important at all and not much actual character, despite the charm it has visually. The puzzles are also really basic and it's just overall not very fulfilling. Surprised it's getting some rave reviews... it's a 6 at best, he says putting his reviewer hat back on for five minutes. Probably doesn't help I finished Oceanhorn not long back, which was equally hollow in the same way... this is just giving me flashbacks to that. Shame really.

FIRE EMBLEM WARRIORS NEXT WEEK. You with me, Gar?!?
