I was interested in Sea of Thieves until I heard it was by Rare. I've always found their games to be soulless. But then, I loved No Man's Sky so, you know, my opinion on this might be more irrelevant that usual.

Sea of Thieves doesn't really meet you halfway. You need to work (probably too much) stuff out yourself, and it's not hugely friendly about it.

I think it shows just how much trouble Microsoft are in, exclusive-wise.

That's not a slight on Sea of Thieves. I'm sure once I've figured it out it'll be brilliant, especially with friends. But this is the game they're pinning all their hopes on at the minute, not to mention the success of their Game Pass. You'd assume that, given the choice, they would have chosen a game that was super accessible and assured of mass-market success.

I think chickens are usually on the beach. Don't know why. Maybe they're working on their tans.

With this I took the Chest I dug up to a gold horder and it didn't show up as completing my vovage. Not sure if I was meant to return to the starting island or where I was but I then took another quest and they werent spawning maps to purpose, so I was effectively stuck/glitched with nothing to do.

Any gold hoarder should work, it doesn't have to be the same guy. Was the chest you dug up from a Voyage, or a message in a bottle? Was the voyage only one map? Or did the map have more than one treasure chest marked?

Okay I managed to start a mission after a few hours (thanks guys!) and then sailed to an island. The water is pretty. The clouds are amazing.

I heard a chicken. I ran around in the undergrowth trying to find the chicken for half an hour. Now I have to go to work.

LET ME LOVE YOU sea of thieves. Why are you making it so difficult.

No I get you, what I meant was that firing that up you played till your battery begin flashing, then moved to dock mode and kept playing as it immediately had you.

The voices weren't great neither. I think I preferred the beta thing that didnt have them, just odd they have a few lines of dialogue but then the rest is text.

So I also got gamepass. This is still not doing it for me. Its like the game mechanic isnt fun they realised so they hid that behind obtuse navigation is my current thoughts.

Scour the big map to find the shape that matches the shape on your little map, sail there. Kill some terrble a.i skeletons (mine constantly run off in the other direction does that happen to anyone else?) - dig up a chest, not have any clue where you are meant to take it.

Playing Zelda or Mario and having an endless amount of directions and things that you just want to find and explore, and then moving to this I can't understand why everyone is so taken. I really want to love this like everyone online and on the podcasts I listen to does, and I can't.

Chests go to the Gold Hoarders for rep and doubloons.

It probably could do with some kind of intro/tutorial, instead of just kind of dropping you in the world and leaving you to it. And I get that the limited number of "objectives" aren't going to be to everyone's taste, but it's not a game about objectives, and I don't think there's necessarily a mechanical issue - I love the experience of just sailing around.

If you go into it expecting Zelda, then, yeah - you're going to be disappointed. But it's not trying to be Zelda, nor do I think it ever claimed it was.

Okay I’ve spent about an hour so far on that first little island... I can’t start any quests. I don’t know how.

I’ve even tried following a couple of guides - I have three voyages in my inventory, but then I can’t do anything with them. If I approach the map table it just says View Map. Any ideas? I don’t mind a bit of player freedom but this is a bit mental!
Near the map table is a voyage table, where the crew can propose and vote on voyages.

If you're on a sloop, it's to the right of the door as you head to the map table. On the galleon, it's in the captain's cabin.

The best bit of AssPirate 4 was finding new beaches and listenings to the exotic birdsong.

You clearly saw a different version of AssPirate 4 to me.
