As far as searches are concerned, I find that googling site:society.miskie.net, followed by a space and your search term, is better than using the site's search function.

Not a quirk of this place, every site's search function seems pretty shit.

Although that trick still doesn't work for the football thread, weirdly.

Well.. Its a matter of configuration. The Sock hasn't support indexed searching as a matter of choice. The advantage of establishing indexed searching is the searches become much faster, and quite accurate. The downside ( There always is one, isn't there ? ) is that building a search index could increase the size of the database by between 2 and 3 hundred percent. So, using Google as described is a good workaround, provided the thread is visible to guests.

I suspect most forum owners aren't keen on the embiggening of their data, as it could result in higher fees for them. That isn't an issue in my case. 

So - I'll build an index, and see what happens. If the database doesn't become entirely unwieldy, I'll leave it in place. :D
