If anyone is picking the X-Wing game up and is frustrated by the lack of dice, there is a nice phone app from Fantasy Flight Games which effectively gives you an unlimited supply of all the various types of Star Wars dice. It does cost a couple of quid, but there are free unofficial ones too.

You could do that I suppose.

The app is a lot cheaper, and gives you an unlimited supply you can't even lose down the back of the sofa.  Obviously having actual dice is nice, rolling dice is a fun, tactile part of the game.  I do get the impression that FFG deliberately don't give you quite enough dice in the base game in order to make you have to buy more, and they are sort of expensive.  This is just a nice cheap alternative.

By the way, I got the Millenium Falcon for Christmas, and I'm considering repainting it.  Is this wrong?

I'm sure that you could do a great job of painting the Falcon, go for it.

Yeah I am with Brian, from what I have seen of the painting jobs from on here then I would be in anyone having an opinion they would do a better job that the stock paint.

The stock paint jobs are great. felt could probably do better, but I've never felt(?) compelled to paint any of the models.

Second in a tournament. Well. Joint second on MOV, and then the fucking FFG software drops me to "third" on some shitty maths nobody understood. So no alt art Vader card. FFS. Still got a nice dice bag and some acrylic tokens, and thrashed a former regional winner.

Miranda, C3PO, TLT
Y-Wing, R3A2, BTL-A4, TLT
B-Wing, Fire Control Systems
Z95

I think it works better than Heaver's world championship list (Poe, Stresshog, TLT Y and a Z95). Miranda is turreted, can regen even when stressed, and essentially can take two hits per turn (1 evaded with C3P0, one regen'd back) before she starts to take actual damage. Stresshog takes aces out of the game. B-Wing delivers firepower. Z95 blocks. Poe is easily stress locked and the T70 dial is very stiff - and I found Miranda worked very well. The ability to SLAM is also a game changer. A few people went away from the event considering list changes, and there were lots of compliments for my flying of her.

I  might amend the list to put a Recon Specialist on the K-Wing to up damage output, or take the crew off altogether and run an A-Wing as a blocker. The only issue with the list was that Miranda was highly survivable, but in 60 minute rounds I can probably afford to take more risks with her.

In any case, I scored a couple of devastating wins against excellent tournament players and was only really kept off the top spot by not playing effectively for MOV, which will come with more practice. Good day out in any event, and nice to play against decent players for a change.

Which is why I enjoy playing in tournaments. Casual X-Wing is fun, but sometimes I want to go hardcore.

Well done cav!  Third place (well second really) is fantastic.  I want to see you at the worlds in 2016, getting beaten by Paul Heaver in the final as he somehow supernaturally judges distances and angles with millimeter-precision.

I watched a video of him winning in 2014, when he parked the Millenium Falcon between about four closely-bunched asteroids.  Ridiculous.

He's a beast, but as some of us were discussing there have been a few..... questions..... surrounding his dice. FFG are very trusting at events and you don't have to used sealed dice. Paul has, in many critical games had surprising rolls. I mean, perhaps it's just bitterness, but....

But I'm happy with second/third (I was reviewing the score counts for each round, and I think they didn't total some of my MOV correctly, so that's annoying).

Ultimately, I want to win a store championship (I sort of have locally in Aberystwyth, but a domestic housecat could probably win events here). I've got about 5 lined up this year. I might also try Regionals (which I think I can enter, but wouldn't get a first round bye). I was clearly very good at the tournament (no modesty here), but my lack of constant high-quality opposition puts me at a disadvantage against some of the city players. So, I'll need a lot of practice, a good list and a smidge of luck....

Well off topic but my mate who was an set up engineer-me-jig could do this, basically he could gauge sizes within a couple of mm from sight, not rough guesses but what length to cut lintels, beams, supports and what not.

Didn't get a set in the end but will be getting one on payday. I never see the scum and villiany stuff anywhere though. Are they separate ships or just different pilot cards?

Finally ordered the core set from the new films, currently £22.33 on Amazon in case anyone is interested.
