I thought I had already made this thread, so if I have (and I'm cracking up) merge away. Otherwise... Dragon Age! Woo! etc.

Latest trailer.

Provided Marilyn Manson stays out of the full game, do want. I realised the other day, much to my surprise, that it's been ages since I played a really good top down PC RPG. If there's one platform that knows how to churn out an RPG it's the PC, so lord knows why I haven't seen a good one for a while. I think The Witcher was the last truly good one.

So! Anyone else anticipating Dragon Age? Anyone wondering what the world's coming to when you need a powerhouse PC to play a top down RPG? tongue.gif Anyone have any idea how they're going to make it work on consoles?

Yep, saw an interview with a Bioware man last week who confirmed it. The PC version is finished, apparently, the November release date is because they want to release all three versions at the same time.

It's quite rare that we get a port this way around, Bioware have stated that it's the PC version being put onto the consoles, rather than the other way around. The last time I can remember anything similar was The Orange Box, which I didn't think worked all that well, but a lot of people (reviewers included) disagreed with me.

I'll certainly be intrigued to see how they manage a top town RPG on consoles, without it being as average as the console Baldur's Gates. Which were out of Bioware's hands, remember.

Yep, consoles are getting this. I'm not feeling it so far though, although I think the lack of information given about how this thing will actually flow isn't helping. Hiding real gameplay behind some horrible cinematic trailer with the wailing of some fucking wannabe rocker (is that Marilyn Manson? Bah.) and Action Screenshots™ on their site of what might or might not be gameplay doesn't help.

So I'll watch but so far I'm not feeling any love here. I still have a huge boner for Diablo ]|[ smile.gif

I loved those! They weren't even attempting to be the same game/genre as the PC Baldur's Gate games, they were just good old hack 'n' slash dungeon crawls in the same genre as Diablo or Dungeon Siege. They were great fun.

But yes, Bioware returning to their roots? Gimme.

Yup, I loved those, too. Lindsay and I played them both all the way through co-op and had a ball. Indeed, talking about it almost makes me want to play them again, as they were a laugh. I may have to fish 'em out.

There's load of gameplay media out there! I'll not start linking because there's too much, just Google 'dragon age gameplay'.

It (very) basically looks like Baldur's Gate, with the option to bring the camera down to a WoW perspective.

A friend on mine is doing the P&P version of the game; maybe I should tout myself to him...?

Hate it when trailers don't include gameplay though. Like they're trying to hide it.

Looks sort of interesting, if a bit wooden and "going through the motions", but that could be just what they're showing so far.

If you get him to write a seven nippled elf gimp called Mr Party Hat into the lore I'll give you *searches pocket* five pounds, thirty seven pence and a tissue.

Somehow, I doubt it; although, that tissue is tempting...

i'm definitely moist for Dragon Age. if there's one thing i need more of, it's Baldur's Gate-style RPG wonderment. oh wait...

i saw that trailer a couple of weeks ago or so, and was horrified and baffled by the presence of Marilyn Manson and the focus on gore and cut-scenes. the two peices of good news are:

1) the trailer seems to have little to do with the game, having been thrown together by EA, in a strange attempt to draw in the BIG! crowd (a crowd they themselves consistently underestimate to be jocks and morons, when in fact the BIG! games are often pretty good, and are played by reasonable people who love the gameplay and would murder DJ Atomika on sight.) it's the way that MM's name pops up at the bottom and, yes, the font that gives it away. the game itself is apparently a BG-style high fantasy top-down RPG, like we fans scarcely dared dream for.

2) someone has made a far better version of the same trailer.

Bloke in armor that the trailer is about (hopefully the villain for fake out victory) is a right poncy looking bloke. Hopefully they'll tone down the violence for the final release or this will be about as well played as The Witcher.

This kind of universe has never really appealed to me so much as it does you guys (hence never getting into Oblivion), but Bioware have done at least three games I love, so I'll probably just keep watch from afar, see how it progresses.

As far as the trailer goes, the Manson version was third (and worst) version I saw, after the one felt linked to and then this, which is my own personal favourite.

Play all the versions one after the other for someone who doesn't know any better (having removed the text, obviously), and I'm thinking this is the one they'd think is real, 5-0 is the one they'd laugh at, the CB one would probably amuse a little (the song's a bit niche, admittedly), and the Manson one they'd probably think was done by the emo idiots that doctored the Diablo 3 screenshots.

Well, I watched some more of the videos online and my resistance crumbled; I've touted myself for the P&P game, even though it's very likely to be finished already. I made no mention of seven-nippled elves when I sent the email.
