Anyone pre-ordered? It's been getting very positive reviews, as well as glowing previews all (last) year, and without wanting to do its creativity an injustice, it's Zelda with God of War bits. How could that go wrong?

I've seen some comparison videos and the 360 game looks like hell, by the way, so if you're multiplatform I'd go for the PS3 version. You can investigate yourself, but there's a mass of screen tearing and a dodgy framerate in 360 gameplay footage, but not in PS3 clips.

Devs claim they'll be patching the 360 version, but in the history of console gaming has any game ever had v-sync issues patched out? No.

Hi, Broken Record here - reviewed this one.

It's quite good. The screen tear stuff isn't game-breaking in any way, people are just being ponces about it. I played the 360 version, as I'm sure you're wondering, and at no point did I want to vomit with rage at the technical abortion on show. Remember the internets overreact to everything.

Oh, and everyone seems to be ignoring the biggest influence on it - Soul Reaver. There's so much Soul Reaver in it it's ridiculous. He even has tattered wings with which to glide.

ooo if its got some Soul Reaver stylings this could be up my street.

I never notice things such as screen tearing etc, I do big frame rate drops and slow down (same thing?) but thats it really.

The slowdown etc is all there, certainly, but it's not like it's Bayonetta/DMC or something - timing isn't absolutely necessary, so it has no real negative effect.

It is, mainly, Zelda crossed with Soul Reaver. And it's great for it. People at work didn't believe me when I compared it to Portal too. The comparisons come in from far and wide, but it never really feels like a rip-off. Considering the subject matter, it's actually quite pleasant.

This game is why Joe Mad stopped making comics.

I know Ninchilla will be buying a copy of this. Speaking of whom, what happened to Ninchilla?

I'm trying to decide whether to get this, Bayonetta, or both. Eight days into the new year, and there's already two games I want (and doesn't something else interesting come out next week? Dark Void?)

Bearing in mind I'm me, then I'll almost certainly end up getting both, but I think if it comes down to it I'm probably more interested in this. It sounds like a bit of a departure, but also comfortingly familiar, and quite possibly like what Too Human should've been.

Roll on the weekend...

I'm getting this at some point, not sure when though. Maybe wait for the price to drop a bit first, I've got plenty of stuff to be playing in the meantime and Mass Effect 2 is a more of priority.

I like it so far.

It's very silly and knows it, the combat is delightfully crunchy, Mark Hamill is doing his joker voice and there's a counter in the options menu that keeps track of how many gallons of blood you've spilled.

As for the structure of the game, it really has just taken the best bits of every big game of the last five years, polished them and arranged everything in a pleasing pattern. In the first twenty minutes I had battled a large boss, had all of my powers taken away from me, been told that I have to visit seven dungeons before I can access the big tower in the middle, pushed blocks, climbed vines and pressed circle to finish off a lot of enemies.

Also, a little touch, but one that I feel is worth mentioning. You can hold R1 down to make War climb and shimmy at incredible speeds, so having to drop down onto ledges isn't the pain it is in every other game on the planet. More games doing this from now on, please.

Hold on, can we clear this up....

What happened to Ninchilla? Am I allocating his seat in the grand dining room to someone else?

I think his was one of the ones we broke up for firewood the other night. These high ceilings are proving hard to keep warm this winter.

It didn't get remotely Zelda for around two hours, but once it did, it really did. laugh.gif

I've just completed a dungeon that could have been ripped straight from Twilight Princess, provided it was given a different face.

Kotaku have reported a fix for the graphical issues on the 360 is in the works, with the developer saying it's "simple".

Which begs the question....

Wow, this is just a bit good isn't it?

I've literally just come away from it int he middle of the bit where it begins to scream ZELDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and feel its got that blend between combo based button mashers like God of War perfectly blended with puzzle dungeon based games such as the aforementioned Nintendo series, plus they threw in a bit of Panzer Dragoon for good measure. I'm not so sure on the visual stylings, it kind of reminds me of World of Warcraft which isn't helped by the borders on the top and bottom of the screen (which might be down to my playing via VGA on a monitor?) making everything feel rather squashed.

Also, even I've noticed screen tearing in this (360 version), glad to hear thats being addressed.

Guess I'll be finding out sooner rather than later whether or not it's my dislike of the styling that causes mindifference to Zelda then - my copy's sat in the Sorting Office waiting for me to pick it up on my way home...
