Not a lot happening games wise for me at this time of year. I still check in, to see if you've left.

Since you bunch of horrible bastards have managed to hound feltmonkey out of his own thread, I think I'd better 'entertain' you all with an update. Just so we can keep the challenge alive.

Trouble is, there's not much more to report after my titanic effort in getting all achievements from 1 vs 100. No other games completed. Gamerscore has increased a bit but I'm still some way off 45 000 points. As for playing on the PS3, well...

So:

Games completed: 1
Games obtained: 0
Games allowed: 1

I have news worthy of an update! Here it is: Forza 3 has been thoroughly rinsed of all achievements - including 'Solid Gold'. So that's another game completed.

Gamerscore has increased to 43460. At least it has on the 360. PS3 trophy level has seen no increase - mostly because I haven't switched the thing on since my last post.

So, in summary:

Games completed: 2
Games obtained: 0
Allowance earned: 0
Points to next allowance threshold: 1540.

Next target: Darksiders

Try getting 1000/1000 on Batman: Arkham Asylum. It's not desperately hard, plus my having Proled a game you haven't seems like an affront to nature somehow.

I've been kinda doing something along these lines since Christmas where I picked up an absolute ton of games and was keen not to abandon any in my enthusiasm for the next round of awesome titles. My current rules, such as they are, are pretty simple:

1) Mass Effect 2 is outside the rules. I will buy it. Screw everyone. It does not count as a newly bought game.
2) Each time I do two of the following, I may buy 1 game:
i) Complete a game I have never completed before.
ii) Fully complete (from start to finish) two different games I have completed before.
iii) Perfectly complete a game. I.e.: platinum a PS3 game, or score all achievements in a game, or similarly 100% complete a game.
3) I can change my rules at will.

Rule 2 is designed to get me to replay the games I have a little more and make sure I get my money's worth out of each as much as I can. I think it will work for me.

So far:

1st-time Completions: 1 (Mass Effect 2)
Repeat Completions: 0
Perfect Completions: 0

New Games Earned for 2010: 0
New Games Bought in 2010: 0

I would, but it's on loan right now.

Yay! Someone else who's joined in, Makes me look (slightly) less weird.

Your rule 3 is excellent, BTW. I'm sure that both felt and I would have included something similar, were we not resigned to abject failure from the very start.

Glad to join in. As I said, I've kinda been doing it anyway. In my head I promised myself that I wouldn't buy any more games (not including Mass Effect 2) until I'd completed some of my Christmas haul or got some more play out of my existing library. This just helps consolidate it... and make you look (slightly) less weird.

An update from this evening's play:

1st-time Completions: 1 (Mass Effect 2)
Repeat Completions: 1 (Mass Effect)
Perfect Completions: 0

New Games Earned for 2010: 0
New Games Bought in 2010: 0

I really enjoyed Mass Effect this second play. The storytelling was superb, and playing a total arse was quite refreshing after all the Little Miss Goody Two-Shoes paragon-play I've been doing with ME2. I'm really keen to see how my new Sheperd translates into ME2, now.

Update:

Just bought Chime, because it looks a bit Lumines-esque and it's for charidee. Bonus: 50 gamerscore just for buying it.

Gamerscore now stands at 44010, so less than 1000 points to the next threshold. No PS3 news though. Bah!

Games completed: 2
Games earned: 0
Games obtained: 1

Current balance: +1 game allowed.

And we have another completion of Mass Effect 2. A little disappointed with the alternative end, but I'll live. All ready for Mass Effect 3 now.

1st-time Completions: 1 (Mass Effect 2)
Repeat Completions: 2 (Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2)
Perfect Completions: 0

New Games Earned for 2010: 1
New Games Bought in 2010: 0

So, earned my first new game. That'll be Heavy Rain. Now to hit some of the PS3 backlog, but I'll do some work first.

I don't understand how you have a backlog. You have completed ME1 once, and ME2 twice in the time it's taken me to complete Virmire.

It's because I typically only game in short spurts, I suppose. I'd not gamed at all this year until ME2 came out (work got in the way), and even then I wasn't planning to play much, but I did my back in playing with the kids. Not cool and very painful (getting old, I suppose). Still, gave me time to play Mass Effect a lot; it wasn't like I could do much else!

So, given I received about twenty games at Christmas (not including a few irresistible Steam games at uber-cheap prices), my back-log is pretty sizeable. Somewhere around 50 games or so that I really want to sink some time into. For me, that's a huge amount. Still, I can whittle away at that as the year passes. I've no idea how well I'll do.

Lindsay is kinda doing the same. She has a bunch of games she really wants to play but hasn't yet. She's also running her own little Operation Total Farce, for want of a better description. Currently she's playing through Trine, Critter Crunch, and Lumines.

It takes me bloody ages to get anywhere in Mass Effect. People report they've finished it in 6 hours, I've barely reached the Citadel for the first time by then. I'm like Grandpa Gamer.

You've completed it before though, yes? Did you just storm through the main story on the first play? I seem to remember you suggesting I do the same when I first bought the game.

According to the save file I imported in ME2, my only play through on the 360 took 12 hours.

And I thought I was pretty thorough.
