Wev, it might be worth checking out Live Codes or similar sites and seeing what's the best deal on a cost / month basis.

Dear recon,

Get off that fucking hill. Get the fuck off it right fucking now. I swear to god if I see one more team of attackers and half the team are recons sitting ontop of a hill all looking in the same place and the only effect you are having is to cost the rest of us team tickets I will find a friendly fire server and make it a mission to kill every single recon player on that server until I am banned and need to move on to another one.

Seriously this shit is getting tiresome. Please, get off the fucking hill.

No I know you have a ghillie suit and can take sniper rifles but you are not a sniper. You should be a recon soldier. You are there to spot enemy troops for the rest of us.

Now grow some balls, pick up a fucking shotgun and some C4 and start earning points like the rest of us.

Lots of love,

Luscan.

I hate that. It can completely cripple a team when that happens, and yet they seem completely oblivious, or just don't care. I'm generally only ever Recon on defence, and even then only for a change if there isn't already an overabundance of them on my team (and I'm still more likely to be a Medic or Engineer (depending on the level/vehicle situation) anyway).

That said, I did play Recon in one game last night after I'd jumped in and, much to my suprise, realised I was on a team of Defenders with only one other Sniper. Found myself a nice spot where I could see both M-Comm stations, and proceeded to do my best to take out any opposition Snipers (who are always in the same places, or anyone who got close to the stations. I did rather nicely, and it was quite good fun (especially when I got a message from one of the other team calling me a camper and telling me to...er, perform a sexual act*), but I still felt guilty when someone got to our Stations and I wasn't close enough to get down and disarm it...

A question though (particularly for console owners) - I seem to have somehow remained oblivious as to how you point out enemy locations, and a (very) quick look at the controls mid-game made me none the wiser. What do I need to be pressing?

Then all I'll need to do is get to the part of the solo campaign where I can practice piloting the helichopper...

* - I took it as a compliment, and was going to reply with "sorry, next time I'll run around in the open so you can shoot me", but decided I couldn't be bothered.

If you're on 360 tap the back button when your crosshairs are over them. It works for vehicles and UAVs too.

I'm on PS3, but at a guess it'll just be the Select button then. Cheers MPH.

Huh. I didn't realise I hadn't posted anything in here in a while. Suprising, considering how much I've played (and enjoyed) it.

Anyway, a quick recap...

The solo campaign is good, but nothing special. It is, however, considerably better than MW2 is just about every way bar some elements of presentation (and you could argue it doesn't control as sharply, but, as Killzone 2 proved, I like the additional weightiness of movement in some games). There are some nice setpieces though (the sniper rifle in the thunder storm), and the bunch of endearing misfits that are your companions are a vast improvement over Ghost, Soap et al.

The multiplayer is brilliant. Rush (where you attack/defend two objectives, and then move on to the next two if/when they're destroyed, until they run out) is basically my favourite multiplayer game mode of anything ever, largely due to the way it makes it feel/people behave more like it's a real contest.

The only important thing, bar presentation, MW2 has over this, in my opinion, is Spec Ops. That's it. That MW2 reviewed so much better is mental. Seriously.

Now, why I came in here - the SPECACT DLC. Basically, I just thought it worth pointing out that all you get is a few extra Trophies/Achievements (bog-standard stuff - get 8 kills in a round/five kills in a row/100 kills overall with each of the "new" weapons to get a Trophy), and what amounts to different coloured versions of already available guns*. The only difference is that the SPECACT MG3 has slightly different attributes.

* - admittedly, they are the last guns available in each class to be unlocked in three of four cases, and are all possibly marginally the best in their respective category (they're all among my favourites), but it's still not much of an incentive unless you want a shortcut to the guns. By now, I'd have thought you'd either have played it enough that you'll have them anyway, or won't care enough to pay to get what aren't really a lot better than what you start with.

The new Onslaught DLC releasing in a bit probably isn't as good as Spec Ops, but it fills a Spec Ops-shaped gap in BC2. You team up with up to three other players against the AI, trying to capture a set number of command points on a map in the fastest time possible.

It's brilliant fun, actually, and encourages you to play as a team even more than the standard multiplayer does.

Is all the DLC for BC2 free? Keep meaning to get back to it, but if its not worth bothering with unless you get the DLC (much like Halo 3 was prior to the release of ODST) then I won't bother.

I think the map pack(s) released so far were unlocked automatically if you bought the SE/entered a code, but I'm not sure how you get hold of them if you bought the vanilla version. The SPECACT pack (the one with "new" guns/Trophies) wasn't free, but makes no difference to anything but your Gamerscore/arsenal.

The first wave of DLC was free upon entering a code bought with a new copy of the game. (It's part of EA's 'Project $10 thing). You can download it if you bought pre-owned, but it costs spacebucks.
